Commoners Campaign
Introduction
After a season of prayer and communal discernment, we have officially decided to begin the process of launching Commoners Church. In order to do so, we are inquiring and inviting a private group of community partners to take part in our pre-launch Commoners Campaign.
Commoners Church is group of people dreaming about building a better way forward, together. We are in the beginning stages of co-creating a spiritual community centered on a collective desire to experience love and liberation in our world. Though we find ourselves at the intersection of what is and what can be, and come from various backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences, we gather around a common longing for justice, goodness, beauty, and love.
As we prepare to soft–launch our community in early 2024, we’re asking and praying for financial investment into our story as we look to fundraise our 2024 Budget Proposal in two stages:
STAGE 1 (PRIVATE)
Info: A one time collaborative seed-stage investment round from churches/organizations
Timeline: November + December 2023
For: Part-time 12 month salary for Joseph Peterson
Ask: $24,000 (Looking to raise $2,000/month)
STAGE 2 (PUBLIC)
Info: One time launch expenses + ongoing fundraising
Timeline: Early 2024
For: Launch expenses + monthly operating expenses
Ask: $3,250 Launch expenses + $24,000 operating expenses ($2,000/month)
We have a few resources below to help give a sense of what we’re asking for, why we’re asking for it, and how we plan to allocate the finances we’re able to raise.
Our Vision
In our effort to build a better way forward together, we are co-creating a spiritual community of love and liberation. Though we are not launching this community with a full staff team or a weekly Sunday worship gathering, we believe God is knitting together a beautifully collaborative vision for communal care, mutual aid, and spiritual formation.
Our Finances
We understand the challenges of church planting, and understand how sensitive money–talks can be. We know that even though we desire to build a world free from the oppressive cycles of capitalism, we recognize that money is a natural necessity for building communities of faith in our context. To that end, part of our vision for building a better way forward requires us to rethink and reimagine fundraising, staffing, and budgeting.
Conclusion
We hope and pray that you’ll be able to find clarity on the part God is calling you to play in the story of Commoners. Whether through ongoing prayer, communal encouragement, ministry partnership, or financial investment, we love and appreciate all that you do for our community. We would not be where we are without the prayer, support, and encouragement of friends and ministry partners like you. So thank you for your consideration!
